Softball Splits Double Dip at Southwestern

The Austin College softball team closed out its weekend series against Southwestern with a split, taking game one 6-0 before falling 9-0 in game two. The 'Roos are now 14-21 overall this season heading into their final series of the year against Dallas this weekend.

In game one, the 'Roos scored two runs in each of the second, third, and fourth innings and that would be more than enough run support for Victoria Herrera, who tossed a complete game shutout to earn the win. Emily Low got the scoring started with a two run homer in the second, and in the third Sophia Hernandez drove in a run, and Mary Whitworth added her fourth homer of the season.

The 'Roos got their final two runs in the fourth on an RBI single by Briana Hernandez and another RBI base knock from Mallory Rossmann to make it 6-0. Herrera scattered eight hits and struck out one with zero walks to earn her eigth win of the season. Low finished 2-for-3 and Lacy Price and Briana Hernandez also added a pair of hits in the victory.

In game two the 'Roos saw their offense shut down as Southwestern's Nicole Gibbs tossed a no-hitter, and the Pirates would plate one run in the second, three in the third, and then erupted for a five run fifth to end the game via the run-rule. Herrera took the loss after surrendering three runs, two earned, in 2.1 innings of work.
