Softball Tops Greenville, Falls to Washington

The Austin College softball team split its two games on Saturday, falling 8-0 to No. 17-ranked Washington University before topping Greenville 5-3. The 'Roos are now 5-4 overall this season.

Austin College fell in a 3-0 hole after one inning against Washington, and the score became 4-0 after the third. That remained the score until the sixth, when Washington plated four runs to end the game via the run-rule. The 'Roos were held hitless in the game. Victoria Herrera took the loss after surrendering eight runs, seven earned, on 14 hits in 5.2 innings of work.

Against Greenville, the 'Roos plated three in the top of the first to grab an early lead with Briana Hernandez hitting an RBI single, and Hailey Clendennen belting a two run double. Another run came home in the second when Lindsey Pollard scored on a wild pitch. Sophia Hernandez drove in one more run with a double in the fourth to make it 5-0, and the 'Roos would hold on for the win despite three runs in the bottom of the seventh for Greenville.

Six different players each had a hit for the 'Roos, with Clendennen and Sophia Hernandez each finishing 1-for-3 with a double. Hernandez also picked up the win on the mound, throwing a complete game while allowing three runs, two earned, on seven hits with five strikeouts.
