Softball Drops Season Opener to Pacific

Softball Drops Season Opener to Pacific

The Austin College softball team fell short in its season opener, dropping a 9-7 decision to Pacific University.

The 'Roos jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first but Pacific plated four runs in the second inning, and after Austin College added another run in the bottom half of the inning, the Boxers scored two more in the top of the third to make it 6-3. Another run came home for the 'Roos to make it 6-4 after three but Pacific scored three more in the top of the sixth to push it to a 9-4 game.

The 'Roos tried to rally in the bottom of the sixth with Mallory Rossmann, Briana Hernandez, and Sophia Hernandez each notching an RBI to bring it to a 9-7 game but that's where the comeback would end.

Haley Clendennen had a strong collegiate debut, going 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI to lead Austin College offensively. Sophia Hernandez went 2-for-4 with an RBI and took the loss on the mound, tossing a complete game while allowing nine runs, eight earned, on 11 hits.
