Men's Tennis Defeats Colorado College 8-1

GEORGETOWN, Tex. - Under the lights of the Marvin D. Henderson Tennis Center on the campus of Southwestern University, Austin College won the rematch of last year's SCAC Tournament 3rd Place match versus Colorado College 8-1.

Contributing to the Kangaroos' success was a sweep of all three doubles matches over the Tigers.  Brett O'Brien and Josh Granberry rolled to an 8-3 victory at Line 2 to put AC on the board first.  Calum Robe and Andres Padilla battled to an 8-6 decision at Line 3 to secure a lead going into singles, and current West Region #10 Double Team, Siddharth Kortikere and Kenneth Hardy, defeated their Line 1 opponent 8-6.

AC and Colorado College have split the singles matches 3-3 in the last three meetings between the two schools.  But the 3-0 lead coming out of doubles clearly energized the 'Roos, as Lines 2, 4, and 6 were all won in straight sets by Austin College competitors.  Padilla split sets with his Tiger adversary, and Padilla prevailed in the third, with the final score of 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.  Robe also split sets at Line 5, dropping the first 4-6, winning the second 6-4, and claiming the super tiebreaker 10-8.

O'Brien was the first Kangaroo to claim victory, winning 6-3, 6-1 at Line 2, with Padilla securing the team victory at Line 3.  Hardy added the sixth point of the match with his 6-0, 6-3 performance at Line 4, followed by Preston Spivey winning Line 6 6-2, 6-2.

Austin College returns to the courts tomorrow, 4/6 against #29 Southwestern at 4:00PM in Georgetown.
