RICHARDSON, Tex. - Austin College Men's Tennis opened play in the fifth-annual UTD Invitational against the University of Texas at Dallas in doubles competition, and Texas A&M - Texarkana in singles.
The Kangaroos jumped all over the Comets in the four doubles lines, taking home wins at Lines 1, 3 and 4, and narrowly dropping Line 2 to a veteran tandem.
Kenneth Hardy and Siddharth Kortikere, the reigning ITA West Region #14 Doubles Team, fought off a break-of-serve in both sets against their Line 1 opponents, and closed hard to win 7-5, 7-5.
Andres Padilla and Calum Robe won a tightly contested first set 7-5, before falling in a quick hole in the second set. The SCAC All-Tournament Team tandem fought back to take Line 3 7-5, 6-4.
Preston Spivey and Safe Rahman dropped their first set 6-1 before coming back to win the second set 6-2, and the super tiebreaker 10-5.
Later in singles, the Kangaroos were swept by the Eagles at all 7 lines, but valuable experience was earned by several young players and developing veterans.
