Men's Tennis Falls 8-1 to Trinity in Regular Season Finale

SAN ANTONIO, Tex. - The Trinity University Tigers defeated the Austin College Kangaroos Men's Tennis Team 8-1 on Saturday evening.  While the 'Roos were only able to register one point on the scoreboard, it was the resiliency of their fight that was the most impressive accomplishment of the competition.

The Tigers swept the doubles 3-0 behind an 8-4 victory at Line 1 over Kenneth Hardy and Siddharth Kortikere.  The handspeed and the shotmaking behind the Trinity University offensive and defensive net play was a fraction of a second faster than that of the Austin College side.

AC fell on the top 5 singles flights, with Hardy and Granberry banging the ball with their SCAC counterparts in lengthy and gripping rallies baseline to baseline.  The Tigers' ability to capitalize on short-ball mistakes was exemplary and will certainly serve as a model of future expectations for both the player and coaches of the Kangaroo Tennis Teams.

But the brightest spot of the day was captured by Pieter Jon Cabato, as the young first-year 'Roo took the first set at Line 6 and a 5-2 lead in the second.  In the last match on scenario, Cabato stumbled a bit to open the door to his Trinity foe, but regained his composure through the support of his teammates.  Cabato fought back from down 4-6 in a second-set tiebreak to win 9-7 and prevent the sweep.

The Men's Tennis Season has been a banner year for Austin College as the 'Roos finish 12-5 (4-2) on the regular season.  The Kangaroos will begin the SCAC Conference Tournament almost assuredly as the 3rd-seed on Friday, April 28th, 2017 at 3:00pm in San Antonio, TX.
