Men's Tennis Knocks Off #17 West Ranked Schreiner 6-3 in SCAC Showdown

KERRVILLE, Tex. – The Kangaroo Men's Tennis Team collected a huge 6-3 victory over the #17 Regionally Ranked Mountaineers from Schreiner University today to move to 10-4 (2-1).

An electric and exciting SCAC road match atmosphere fueled the 'Roos to a 2-1 doubles lead.  Preston Glasscock and Pieter Jon Cabato struck first with a big Line 3 victory.

Kenneth Hardy and Siddharth Kortikere fell 9-8 (4) at Line 1 to level the match.  After a long service game, Erik Meendsen and Josh Granberry got the crucial hold to put the Kangaroos ahead going into singles competition.

But the Mountaineers would not make it easy for the 'Roos to close out the match, taking the first sets on 3 of the first 4 matches to start the second act of competition. Meendsen was unstoppable at Line 3 singles, winning 6-1, 6-1 over Pena.

Granberry fell in a closely contested match 7-5, 6-0 to bring the Mountaineers within one just as Hardy and Kortikere split sets at Lines 2 and 4.

Hardy would put the men up 4-2, and Kortikere would play cleanup as the Kangaroos knock off the 17th-ranked team in the West Region just weeks after earning their first regional ranking in program history.

Austin College will return to the courts in two weeks for an SCAC triple-header before the Conference Tournament.  They start with Colorado College on Friday, April 21st at 6:00pm on the courts of the University of Texas at San Antonio.
