Men's Tennis Perfect in ITA Qualifying Play

TYLER, Tex. - With two singles players and one doubles team receiving automatic entry into the Main Draw, three Kangaroo Men's Tennis Players and one doubles tandem opened up the ITA Southwest Regional Championship with Qualifying Rounds this evening.

It was very simple...win and you're in.  And the Kangaroos did just that.  Preston Glasscock, Josh Granberry, and Pieter Jon Cabato all picked up victories, and in doing so earned a coveted bid into the ITA A-Draw Singles Brackets.

Granberry faced a sophomore from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, and after a close first set, rolled to a victory 7-5, 6-2.

Glasscock was not far behind as he played a freshman athlete from Concordia (Tex.), capping his first bid into A-Singles with a 7-5, 6-3 win.

Cabato was the last to begin, but showed nerves of steel against a Junior from Southwestern, earning an early lead in the first set, and a late break of serve to close the door on a 6-3, 6-3 victory.

Coming off their victories in singles, Granberry and Glasscock teamed up to compete for one last entry into the main doubles tournament.

They earned and subsequently gave up two early breaks of serve.  But after falling behind 5-6, the Senior/Sophomore tandem did not lose another point; winning 12 straight rallies en route to an 8-6 victory over Concordia.

All singles draws begin play tomorrow morning at 8:00am.  A, B, and C singles will be played on the campus of Tyler Junior College.  Orange, White, and Blue Singles will be played on the campus of UT-Tyler.
