Brown Makes History at SCAC Championships

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Chris Brown made history on Friday night at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championship Meet, becoming the first ever 'Roo men's swimmer to bring home an individual championship at the event. Brown took gold in the 100 backstroke, setting an Austin College program record in the process.

Brown claimed first place with a time of 50.35 seconds, coming from behind in the final stretch to get the victory. Also performing well on the men's side was Colton Baker, who earned a sixth place finish in the 1-meter diving competition, and the team of Brown, Tyler Brown, Max Saenz, and Charles Smith placed fifth in the 200 medley relay with a time of 3:37.17.

On the women's side, Lexi Wong set a new program record in the 100 breaststroke, finishing with a time of 1:10.06 to place eighth. Sophie Garriga added a sixth place finish, swimming the 400 individual medley in a time of 4:59.08, and the team of Garriga, Chloe Hunt, Brooke Le, and Wong broke an 18-year-old school record in the 400 medley relay, coming in with a time of 4:10.53, more than five seconds faster than the previous record. That time was good for fifth place overall in the event.

Heading into the final day of competition, both teams currently sit in fifth place.
