'Roo Swimming Opens Strong at McMurry

ABILENE, Texas - The Austin College men's and women's swimming and diving teams started the season strong on Friday night, with the men winning by a score of 130-84 while the women ran away with a 160-39 victory.

On the women's side, the 'Roos took first place in every event at the meet with Sophie Garriga and Jade Kemp each winning three times. Garriga took first in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 12:03.90, the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:08.46, and was part of the winning 200 free relay team. Kemp touched in a time of 2:29.59 to win the 200 individual medley, and was also part of the 200 medley relay first place team and finished first in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:09.82.

Also winning for the women were Brooke Le in the 50 free with a time of 26.20, and Lexi Wong, who touched in a time of 1:14.52 to win the 100 breaststroke. Chloe Hunt won both the 100 and 200 free with times of 57.35 and 2:06.08, respectively, and Nicole Massaro won the 1-meter diving event with a total score of 161.80. Lula Wallace was another first place winner, coming in with a time of 6:05.33 in the 500 freestyle.

On the men's side, Chris Brown and Chris Hill each won three events, with Brown winning the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:06.11, the 100 backstroke with a time of 55:93, as well as being part of the winning 200 medley relay team. Hill took first in the 50 free with a time of 22.18, as well as the 100 free with a time of 50.22, and teamed with Brown, Max Saenz, and Charles Smith on the 200 medley relay team that took first place. Colton Baker won both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events, while Saenz took first in the 100 butterfly with a time of 54.20 and Smith came in with a time of 1:53.33 to win the 200 freestyle.
