Vu Named a Finalist for SCAC Man of the Year Award

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Austin College swimmer Collin Vu has been named a finalist for the 2017-18 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Man of the Year Award, the league office has announced. Vu is one of eight nominees for this honor.

The award recognizes the conference's senior male student-athlete who has best distinguished himself throughout his collegiate career in the areas of academic achievement, athletic excellence and service and leadership. To be nominated, student-athletes must have completed intercollegiate eligibility in his primary sport by the end of the 2018 spring season, received his undergraduate degree prior to the conclusion of the summer 2018 term and had a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 2.500 (4.000 scale).

Vu graduated this spring with a grade-point-average of 3.65, and was a four-time SCAC Academic Honor Roll member as well as being a member of Omicron Delta Kappa Honor Society. He also served as a lead peer tutor while at Austin College, and was a mentor for students with disabilities from 2016-2018. A team captain for 'Roo men's swimming, Vu earned multiple All-Conference honors and broke several program records during his four seasons. As a freshman, he won Austin College's Tim Jubela Award as the outstanding male freshman athlete.

The 2018 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Man of the Year will be selected and announced later this month. This is the sixth year that the SCAC has awarded this honor. Austin College has one previous winner, when football player Madison Ross won the award in 2016.
