'Roo Men's Swimming Tops McMurry, Women Fall Short

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College men's and women's swimming and diving teams got the season off to a strong start with an overall win against McMurry, as the 'Roo men won 129-54 while the women were edged 103-97.

On the men's side, the 'Roos got first place finishes in the 200 free and the 50 free by Tyler Brown and Collin Vu, respectively, while the team of Chris Brown, Tyler Brown, Vu, and Jason Chen took first in the 200 medley relay. Eric Brown added a first place finish in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:17.91, while Zach Magers won the 100 fly with a time of 59.02 and Vu's time of 51.31 was good enough for first in the 100 free.

Chris Brown added a 100 yard backstroke victory with a time of 54.11, and Nic Cappellini's time of 5:30.68 earned him first in the 500 free. Chris Brown added yet another first place finish in the 1000 freestyle, with his time of 11:17.37 nearly a minute faster than the second place finisher.

Sophie Garriga led the women with a first place finish in the 200 individual medley, finishing with a time of 2:27.91, and Jennifer Liang's time of 2:12.80 got her a first place finish in the 200 free. Matea Stanisic brought home another first place finish in the 100 free with a time of 1:02.62, and Katie Voelkel touched in 5:58.13 in the 500 to garner a first place finish in that event.
