'Roo Men's Soccer Rolls Past MUW

SHREVEPORT, La. - The Austin College men's soccer team exploded for a season-high nine goals in a 9-0 shutout victory over Mississippi University for Women on Sunday in a neutral site match hosted by Centenary College. The 'Roos are now 2-4-1 overall with the win.

Louis Catchpole scored a hat trick in the match, and got things going early with a tally in the 10th minute from an assist by Sam Spencer. The senior striker scored again at the 15:38 mark, this time off of a feed from Matheus Braid, and Jonah Ferrante found the back of the net in the 31st minute with an assist from Marco Guzman to make it 3-0 heading into halftime. Catchpole completed his hat trick early in the second half, scoring once again from a feed by Spencer in the 48th minute to make it 4-0, and Catchpole completed his big offensive day with an assist of his own in the 49th minute, finding Justin Ajdukovich to make it 5-0.

The margin grew to 6-0 on a tally by Pierce Wear at the 56:09 mark, and Daniel Gomez found the back of the net in the 60th minute to make it 7-0. Jeremiah Facundo got into the action with a goal at the 72:06 mark, and Austin College scored one last time just over a minute later, with Guzman scoring from an assist by Diego Rios to make it a 9-0 final. Austin College was thoroughly dominant throughout the match, finishing with a 40-to-0 shot advantage, including putting 19 shots on goal. MUW keeper Antonio Romero made 10 saves in the net, while Jayson Baldwin and Ethan Davila combined for the clean sheet for Austin College.
