HOUSTON, Texas - The Austin College men's soccer dropped a 5-1 road match at the University of St. Thomas on Saturday, bringing the 'Roos to 1-5 overall on the year.
The game was scoreless through most of the first half before the Celts managed to break through, with Ian Alvarez finding the net at the 37:05 mark to put the Celts on top. Alvarez would score again six minutes later, making it a 2-0 match heading into halftime. Austin College cut the margin in half in the 62nd minute when Cesar Escobar put one in the back of the net to make it 2-1, but St. Thomas scored three goals in a 14 minute span between the 70th and 84th minutes to put the game out of reach and make it a 5-1 final.
St. Thomas held a 23-to-9 shot advantage in the match, including 12-to-1 in shots on goal. Aaron Hoffman made seven saves for Austin College, which wraps up the regular season next weekend in Colorado Springs, where the 'Roos will take on Colorado College.
