Schreiner Tops 'Roo Men's Soccer

SHERMAN, Texas - Schreiner University scored three second half goals and Austin College was unable to close the gap, as the 'Roo men's soccer team fell 4-2 on Sunday afternoon. The 'Roos are now 3-3-1 overall on the season.

Austin College got on the board first as Logan Newman weaved his way through the Schreiner defense, finding the net in the 29th minute to make it a 1-0 game. Just over 10 minutes later, Schreiner would equalize on a goal by Alfonso Lopez to send the game into the break all square at 1-1.

After Austin College was denied a chance to take a second half lead when Mountaineer keeper Cody Smith stopped a penalty kick, Schreiner went ahead 2-1 in the 67th minute and added another tally nine minutes later to extend the lead to two goals. The 'Roos cut the lead to 3-2 on a goal from Xander Spurlock with 1 minutes left to play, but Schreiner added an insurance goal with just 24 seconds left in the game to make it a 4-2 final.

The Mountaineers out-shot the 'Roos 25-15 in the game, with Juan Rodriguez making eight saves for Austin College while Smith made seven stops for Schreiner.
