UTD Tops 'Roo Men's Soccer

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College men's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to the University of Texas-Dallas on Sunday afternoon, as the Comets were able to pull away in the second half after a closely contested first. The 'Roos are now 0-2 to open the year.

Austin College came out on the offensive, firing nine first half shots and putting six on goal, but were unable to get on the board. The Comets broke through shortly before halftime, as Austin College keeper Juan Rodriguez made a save at point blank range, but Alfredo Kaegi collected the rebound and punched it into the net in the 38th minute to make it 1-0 at the break.

UT-Dallas controlled possession for much of the second half, limiting Austin College to just three shot attempts after the break, and added to their early on when Jovi Munoz scored in the 48th minute. The score remained 2-0 until the 72nd minute, when UTD drew a penalty kick and Munoz beat Rodriguez just inside the post on the right side of the net to make it a 3-0 game.

The Comets out-shot the 'Roos 26-to-12 in the match, with Rodriguez making eight saves for Austin College while John Nicknish made seven stops for Texas-Dallas. The 'Roos head out on the road next weekend, taking on East Texas Baptist on Friday evening.
