'Roo Men Fall in SCAC Quarterfinals

GEORGETOWN, Texas - The Austin College men's soccer team saw its season come to a close on Friday afternoon, as the 'Roos fell 2-0 to No. 3-seed Southwestern University. The 'Roos end the year with an overall record of 7-6-3.

Southwestern dominated the action through the first half, out-shooting the 'Roos 7-2 with a 5-0 edge in corner kicks. The Pirates would break through on the scoreboard in the 27th minute, as Jake Swonke found the back of the net on an assist from Wil Mekelburg to make it a 1-0 game. That's how the score would stay until late in the second half, when Mekelburg got his own goal at the 82:02 mark to effectively put the game away for Southwestern. The 'Roos had a chance to cut the lead in half a few minutes later after drawing a penalty kick, but Phillip Le's shot was saved by Southwestern keeper Alan Carr.

Austin College out-shot the Pirates 12-6 after halftime to end the game with a 14-13 edge. Joseph Khalaf made two saves for the 'Roos, while Carr finished with 10 stops for the Pirates.
