Men's Soccer Tops Schreiner 3-0

SHERMAN, Texas – The Austin College men's soccer team went ahead in the first half via an own goal by Schreiner, and the 'Roos would add a pair of second half goals to top the Mountaineers 3-0 on Sunday afternoon at the Dr. Jack R. Pierce Memorial Soccer Complex. The 'Roos are now 4-3-2 overall and 3-3-1 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

The own goal by Schreiner came with just over 17 minutes left to play in the opening half, sending the 'Roos into halftime with a 1-0 lead. It was a defensive struggle for much of the first half, with Austin College holding the Mountaneers to just two shots but unable to create much offense of their own.

In the second half, Schreiner went on the offensive, firing 10 shots but coming away with nothing to show for it, while Austin College scored on two of its six second half attempts. In the 72nd minute, Juan Ramirez found the back of the net on a free kick from 35 yards out, and then in the 84th minute, Brandon Harner played a ball through the box and found Phillip Le, who blasted it home to make it a 3-0 final.

Joseph Khalaf made two saves for Austin College, who will get out on the road on Tuesday when they travel to Irving to take on the University of Dallas with game time set for 5:00 p.m.

Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
