Late Surge Pushes Trinity Past 'Roo Men

SHERMAN, Texas – The Austin College men's soccer team found themselves all square with No. 8-ranked Trinity University after 80 minutes, but the Tigers exploded for three goals in the final 10 minutes to hand the 'Roos a 4-1 loss on Friday night. The 'Roos are now 3-3-1 overall and 2-3-1 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

Trinity got on the board first in an evenly played first half after drawing a penalty kick, with Brady Johnston putting it home in the 31st minute of action to make it 1-0 at the break. Austin College responded quickly in the second half, drawing a PK of their own with Phillip Le burying it to square things up in the 49th minute.

The score remained 1-1 for the next 30 minutes, but Andrea Codispoti collected a through-ball and scored at the 80:32 mark for what would prove to be the game winner, and Jacob Hallenberger added a tally two minutes later. The final goal came when Hallenberger found Austin Michaelis for a header off of a corner in the 89th minute to make it a 4-1 final.

Trinity finished the game out-shooting the 'Roos 19-5, including 11-2 in the second half. Joseph Khalaf made seven saves for the 'Roos, while Blake Lieberman made one stop for Trinity. Austin College will be looking to bounce back on Sunday when they play host to Schreiner University with game time set for noon.
