Men's Soccer Dominant in Win Over JWU

SHERMAN, Texas –It took the Austin College men's soccer team until the second half to get on the board, but the 'Roos were dominant throughout in a 3-0 victory over Johnson & Wales University on Sunday afternoon at the Dr. Jack R. Pierce Memorial Soccer Complex. The 'Roos are now 2-1-1 overall and 1-1 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

Austin College held a 13-2 shot advantage in the opening half but was unable to find the back of the net, but that changed quickly in the second half when Juan Ramirez ripped a shot from 20 yards for the game's first goal just 49 seconds out of halftime. Ramirez scored again from virtually the same spot just over four minutes later to put the 'Roos on top 2-0.

The 'Roos got numerous scoring chances for the rest of the half and controlled possession throughout, adding their third goal in the 63rdminute when Phillip Le played a pass across the box and Garrett Goyen punched it in from six yards out for the first goal of his collegiate career. Le also assisted on the second goal for Ramirez.

Austin College finished the match with a 29-6 shot advantage, with Joseph Khalaf needing to make just one save to earn the clean sheet. Johnson & Wales keeper Alexis Araiza made 10 saves for the Wildcats.

The 'Roos head out on the road this week, taking on No. 17-ranked Trinity University on Friday in San Antonio.

Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
