'Roos Edged by Colorado College

SHERMAN, Texas – Colorado College took advantage of an early miscue for what would be the game's only goal and handed the Austin College men's soccer team a 1-0 loss in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference opener for both teams. The 'Roos are now 1-1-1 overall on the year.

In an evenly match game that turned into a defensive battle, Colorado College intercepted a pass deep in Austin College's defensive third, and Samson Heyer put one low and inside the right post in the 11th minute of action. That would be the lone tally of the game, with the Tigers holding a 12-9 shot advantage in the match, in addition to a 7-4 edge in corner kicks.

Colorado College controlled possession for several long stretches but Austin College's defensive effort repeatedly turned the Tigers away. The 'Roos had a chance to equalize in the final seconds, but a desperation attempt from Victor Monsivais with just two seconds left sailed high of the goal.

Joseph Khalaf made four saves for Austin College, while Keller Mochel had two stops for Colorado College. The 'Roos will be looking to rebound on Sunday when they take on Johnson & Wales University at 12:00 p.m. at the Dr. Jack R. Pierce Memorial Soccer Complex.

Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
