#TBT: 'Roo Men's Soccer Earns First Ever SCAC Victory

On October 8, 2006, the Austin College men's soccer team hosted Southwestern University for the program's second ever Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference match. The 'Roos had fallen to No. 1-ranked Trinity in the team's first ever conference match, but used a late goal in double overtime to top the Pirates 2-1 for the historic victory.

After transitioning from the American Southwest Conference to the SCAC following the 2005 season, the 'Roos would end up going 5-4 in conference play in their inaugural season in their new league. That day against Southwestern, the team overcame a 28-to-7 shot advantage for the Pirates to come away with the victory. Austin College would use that victory to start a five match winning streak.

Ryan Bielefeldt gave Austin College a 1-0 lead in the 49th minute of action, but the Pirates drew even 30 minutes later to force extra time. In the 116th minute of play, Alex Dawson found Austin Newman for the game-winner. Dawson would end up with a team-best six assists on the season, while also leading the 'Roos with eight goals. Newman finished the year with two tallies - both game-winners.
