'Roo Men Battle to Draw with Colorado College

SHERMAN, Texas – The Austin College men's soccer team opened up Homecoming and Family Weekend with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against visiting Colorado College, bringing the team's overall record to 6-4-4 overall and 4-3-3 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

Both teams had some strong chances at the goal in the first half but neither team was able to get on the board before the break, and it wasn't until the 62nd minute of action that Austin College broke the scoreless tie with a goal from Jack Wheaton. Juan Ramirez played a long through-ball to Wheaton, who beat multiple Colorado College defenders and placed the ball past Tigers' keeper Theo Hooker to make it 1-0.

That remained the score until the 81st minute of action, when Colorado College equalized on a goal by Joel Fryckholm, who chested home a deflected cross from point blank to make it 1-1 to send the game to overtime. Colorado College out-shot Austin College 6-0 in the two overtime periods but the 'Roo defense held strong, coming away with the draw in the process.

For the game, the Tigers held a 21-14 edge in shots, with Joseph Khalaf making six saves for Austin College while Hooker made five saves for the Tigers.

Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
