Men's Soccer Strikes Twice to Top Schreiner

SHERMAN, Texas – The Austin College men's soccer team scored once in each half on their way to a 2-0 victory over visiting Schreiner University on Friday night at the Dr. Jack Pierce Memorial Soccer Complex. The 'Roos are now 5-2-3 overall and 3-1-2 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Association play.

The 'Roos got on the board in the 15th minute when Chris Abad-Jacobi played a ball to the top of the box to Thomas Quick, who found Jack Wheaton along the end line. Wheaton put his shot into the upper left corner to make it a 1-0 game, which is how it'd remain heading into halftime.

After a strong start to the second half by Schreiner, Austin College quickly regained control and Phillip Le scored just inside the left post from inside the six on a feed from Garrett Matacale to make it 2-0 in the 53rd minute. Austin College continued to dominate possession for much of the remainder of the game, and Joseph Khalaf would record the clean sheet in goal for the 'Roos.

Austin College held a 19-8 shot advantage in the match, with Khalaf stopping both of the shots he faced. The 'Roos are back in action on Sunday when they host No. 4-ranked Trinity University at 2:00 p.m.

Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
