'Roo Men Fall Short in Upset Bid Against No. 1 Trinity

SHERMAN, Texas – The Austin College men's soccer team tallied twice in the second half against No. 1-ranked Trinity University, but the Tigers would score on a deflection off of a 'Roo defender in the 59th minute to top the 'Roos 3-2. The 'Roos are now 4-4-1 overall and 1-3-0 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

The game began as a defensive battle, with Trinity netting the only goal of the first half in the 22nd minute of action to head into the break leading Austin College 1-0. However, a flurry of action began in the 56th minute, with four goals being scored in under four minutes to provide the 3-2 final score.

Austin College got things started when Phillip Le tallied for the seventh time this season on an assist from Juan Ramirez at the 55:15 mark to tie things up, but Trinity would go back on top at the 57:47 mark on a penalty kick by Laurence Wyke. However, Austin College would only need 23 seconds to square things up again, as Ramirez played a ball to Thomas Quick, who managed to chip the ball over the Trinity keeper to make it 2-2.

The Tigers would get the final score of the match, however, as Brent Mandelkorn's ball across the box deflected off of an Austin College player and into the net just 44 seconds after Quick's goal to make it a 3-2 game and neither team would score again the rest of the way.

Trinity owned an 18-7 shot advantage in the match, including 6-2 in the second half but Austin College made both of its second half shot attempts count. Joseph Khalaf made five saves for Austin College in the loss.

Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
