'Roo Men Battle UC Santa Cruz to Double OT Draw

SHERMAN, Texas – Phillip Le scored twice, including a game-tying tally with 17 seconds left to force overtime, and the Austin College men's soccer team battled UC Santa Cruz to a 2-2 draw on Tuesday evening. The 'Roos are now 4-3-1 overall this season.

After a scoreless first half, in which Austin College had several strong chances but were turned away, the 'Roos finally got on the board when Thomas Quick found Le, who placed a shot low into the left corner of the net in the 55th minute of action. The Banana Slugs would square things up 13 minutes later when Dominique Royall collected a deflected shot and punched it in to make it a 1-1 game.

Santa Cruz went ahead 2-1 in the 82nd minute of action, as Jacob Myers Norys took a long through ball and beat the last defender and the keeper for the go-ahead goal. However, Austin College would equalize just before time ran out, with Chase Gaskill feeding Le for his second score of the match with just 17 seconds remaining to force overtime.

Both teams had opportunities in the two overtime periods but neither was able to capitalize, and the game would end in a 2-2 draw. Austin College will get back into Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play this weekend when they host No. 1-ranked Trinity on Friday afternoon.
