'Roos Get Big Second Half to Cruise Past McMurry

SHERMAN, Texas – The Austin College men's soccer team took a 1-0 lead into halftime before exploding for three goals after the break to top McMurry University 4-1 on Sunday afternoon. The 'Roos are now 3-1 overall this season.

Austin College dominated the action early, holding a 12-4 shot advantage in the first half, but were unable to tally until the 20th minute of action. That's when Chris Abad-Jacobi struck a perfect cross across the box to Phillip Le, who one-timed it into the back of the net to make it a 1-0 game heading into halftime.

In the second half, Austin College erupted for three goals in just over 11 minutes to take a commanding 4-0 lead, and they would not look back. Le got things started with his second goal of the game in the 51st minute, and Garrett Matacale followed up two minutes later when he collected a loose ball in front of the goal and blasted it into the back of the net from 15 yards out. The final score for the 'Roos would come when Thomas Quick followed up a saved shot from Juan Ramirez, punching the ball home to give the 'Roos a four goal cushion.

McMurry would get on the board late, as Grant Mendell headed home a cross off of a free kick at the 80 minute mark to make it a 4-1 final. Austin College finished the game with a 23-14 shot advantage. Joseph Khalaf and Michael Moran each made two saves in goal for Austin College.

Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
