Late Goal Lifts 'Roos Past Centenary

SHERMAN, Texas – Thomas Quick tallied in the 82nd minute of action to lift the Austin College men's soccer team past Centenary College 2-1 on Thursday afternoon, with the score coming just two minutes after the Gents had scored to tie things up. Austin College improves to 5-13-1 overall and 3-10 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play with the victory.

Neither team was able to muster much offense early on, and it looked like the two sides would head into the break with everything scoreless after one, but Josh Jones found Gideon Ibemere with a cross and the senior headed it home with just 18 seconds remaining to put Austin College on top 1-0 heading into halftime. That remained the score until the 80th minute, when the Gents found the equalizer with a header of their own as Nick Hammond found the net to even things at 1-1.

However, the jubilation for Centenary was short-lived as Phillip Le found Quick, who managed to put a shot at Gents goalkeeper Rylan Whan, and Whan was unable to corral it as it trickled into the net to put Austin College ahead for good.

Austin College owned a 17-9 shot advantage in the match, and will now move ahead to Sunday's season finale against the University of Dallas at 2:00 p.m. Sunday will also serve as Senior Day for the 'Roos.

Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
