Golden Goal Lifts 'Roos to OT Victory

SHERMAN, Texas – Phillip Le tallied his second golden goal in a four day span to give the Austin College men's soccer team a 3-2 overtime victory over Paul Quinn College on Tuesday evening. The goal was the second of the game for Le, and the third overall this season for the freshman. Austin College improves to 2-2 with the win.

After playing a scoreless first half, Paul Quinn struck first in the 52nd minute of action when William Nino blasted a shot from nearly 30 yards just under the crossbar to put the Tigers ahead 1-0. Le evened things up in the 74th minute when he took a feed from Thomas Quick and knocked it home, and just when it looked like Paul Quinn would regain the lead on a penalty kick, Michael Moran made a diving save to keep things square.

Chris Abad-Jacobi put Austin College ahead 2-1 in the 81st minute when he snuck a shot past the keeper on a free kick from 18 yards out, but with just over two minutes remaining, the Tigers leveled things when Juan Salas collected a deflection and punched it in from eight yards out, sending the game to overtime tied at 2-2.

Just over six minutes into overtime, Quick again found Le with a pass back from the left wing, and Le blasted it into the back of the net to end the game and give Austin College the 3-2 victory. Le had previously scored a golden goal in the team's first win of the season, a 1-0 double overtime victory at Rhodes on Saturday.

Joseph Khalaf and Moran split time in the net for Austin College, with each keeper making three saves in the victory. The 'Roos owned a 34-17 shot advantage in the game.

Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
