Men's Soccer Battles Colorado College to 1-1 Draw

The Austin College men's soccer team used an outstanding defensive effort and a timely late goal to force overtime and earn a 1-1 draw with No. 14-ranked Colorado College on Friday afternoon. The 'Roos are now 0-10-4 overall and 0-7-2 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

Colorado College got on the board early when the Tigers drew a penalty kick just over 10 minutes into the game, and Brandon Ogilvie went to the bottom right corner to give his team a 1-0 lead. Colorado College would increase the pressure on offense in the second half while maintaining a 1-0 lead, firing 12 of their 23 shots in the second period but Austin College and goalkeeper Andrew Celio were able to keep the Tigers at bay.

With just over 13 minutes remaining the 'Roos drew a foul near the left sideline, and Matt Rowlands delivered a ball into the box from 40 yards away. Seth Windsor was able to get on the end of it and head it home to square things in the 78th minute of action and force overtime.

Colorado College held a 6-0 shot advantage in the two overtime periods but Celio was up to the task, including making a spectacular save with under five minutes left in the second overtime, diving backward and punching the ball up over the crossbar on a shot by Caden Mackenzie to keep things even.

Celio finished with four saves, while Theo Hooker made one save for Colorado College as the Tigers held a 23-3 advantage in shots in the game. Austin College will be back in action on Sunday when they host Centenary College and celebrate Senior Day at 12:00 p.m.

Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
