'Roo Men's Soccer Falls on Late Penalty Kick

The Austin College men's soccer team battled Concordia-Texas but a penalty kick in the 75th minute of action proved to be the difference in a 1-0 loss for the 'Roos in Austin on Sunday. The 'Roos fall to 0-3-1 with the defeat.

The two teams came out trading shots throughout the first half, with Concordia holding a slight edge of 6-to-4 for the opening frame, and the 'Roos had a chance to strike first in the 19th minute but Roberto Gutierrez's header sailed high. In the second half, Concordia started to take more control and held a 10-2 shot advantage but the 'Roo defense remained firm, with Andrew Celio making five second half saves.

However, in the 75th minute of action Concordia drew a foul inside the box, and Alejandro Labastida put home the penalty kick to make it a 1-0 game and Austin College was unable to equalize down the stretch.

Austin College will be looking to rebound next weekend when they host the University of Dallas on Friday to open up Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.
