'Roo Men's Soccer Edges Dallas

The Austin College men's soccer team got goals from James Saulnier and Memo Allande and held off a late push by the University of Dallas to take a 2-1 victory over the Crusaders on Friday afternoon. The 'Roos are now 8-7-2 overall and 4-5 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play with the victory.

The 'Roos had what looked like an early goal negated by an offside call, but just moments later Saulnier scored on a free kick from close to midfield to put the 'Roos on the board in the 25th minute of action. That would remain the score heading into halftime.

In the second half the 'Roos added another goal when Allande followed up Joey Alcocer's shot, punching in the rebound in the 68th minute to make it a 2-0 game, but Dallas would get a goal back just over a minute later to make it a 2-1 game. However, that's as close as things would get as the 'Roos held on for the victory.

Andrew Celio made three saves in goal for the 'Roos while John McLeighton made four stops for Dallas as Austin College owned a 16-12 shot advantage.

The 'Roos wrap up the regular season at noon on Sunday with a match against Colorado College.

Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
