'Roos Struggle Offensive in Loss to Dallas

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College men's basketball team struggled to get things going on offense against the University of Dallas on Tuesday evening, shooting just 31.7% from the field and 16.7% from long range in a 70-54 loss to the Crusaders.

The 'Roos held Dallas to 39% shooting from the field, but the Crusaders made 6-of-14 threes, compared to 4-of-24 for the 'Roos, and outscored Austin College 18-10 from the free throw line in the game. Dallas also held a 47-38 edge on the glass, and led by as many as 22 points in the game. Dallas took a 44-32 lead at halftime, pulling away in the opening frame after Austin College got out to an early lead. The 'Roos led 12-9 following a triple from Jackson Rennie, and a bucket by Jason Jones made it 16-13 with 12:49 left in the opening half. However, the Crusaders went on a 16-0 run to make it 29-16 with 9:30 left and never looked back.

Dallas took their largest lead of the game at 58-36 with 14:10 left, and after Austin College trimmed it to a 60-46 game with 5:42 left to play, a three pointer from TJ Williams broke the momentum for the 'Roos. Austin College would not get it closer than 13 points the rest of the way. 

Jones finished with team-highs of 11 points and 12 rebounds, and Tristan Dick scored 10 for the 'Roos. Rex King chipped in eight points, and Kaleb Bennett added seven. Jai Love led all scorers with 21 for the Crusaders.
