TLU Tops 'Roo Men in Overtime

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College men's basketball team scored late to force overtime, but the 'Roos went 4-of-11 from the free throw line in the extra period in an 83-79 loss on Tuesday evening in Hughey Gym. The 'Roos are now 5-13 overall and 2-7 in SCAC play.

Jaylyn Cleamons scored 20 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and dished out four assists to pace Austin College and Chase Antosca came off the bench to score 18, including coming up with a bucket at the end of regulation to even things up at 75 apiece and force overtime. The 'Roos shot 49.2% from the field, but made 11-of-21 free throws and were forced into 18 turnovers in the game. Austin College also dominated the glass, out-rebounding the Bulldogs 45-33, but TLU hit 17-of-22 free throws and came away with 12 steals.

The 'Roos found themselves trailing 39-35 after trailing 35-23 with 4:43 left before halftime. Austin College closed the half with a 12-4 run, capped off by four quick points by Antosca to cut it to four at the break. Texas Lutheran held a 57-52 lead with 11 minutes remaining, but the 'Roos fought back and took a 61-59 lead on a triple by Chanston Goodman with 8:27 left to play. The teams traded baskets down the stretch, with TLU's Jamir Mason putting the Bulldogs ahead 75-73 with 37 seconds left, but Antosca scored with eight seconds left to send the teams to overtime. 

Antosca made a pair of free throws to open the overtime period, but the Bulldogs tied the game at 78 with under a minute remaining. Cleamons knocked down one of two free throws to make it 79-78 with 35 seconds left, but TLU got a basket from Mason to take an 80-79 lead and the Bulldogs held on from there.

Cleamons made 9-of-18 attempts from the field go get his 20 points, and Antosca went 6-of-9 from the floor and 6-of-8 from the free throw line. Jason Jones had 12 points and 11 rebounds. Xavier Phillips led Texas Lutheran with 25 points and 10 rebounds, and Mason finished with 20 points.
