Trinity Pulls Away Late to Top 'Roos

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Austin College men's basketball team was within three points of top-seeded Trinity late, but the Tigers used a 10-0 run to pull away from the 'Roos and end their season with an 80-68 loss in the semifinal round of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament on Sunday afternoon. The 'Roos finish the year with a record of 5-6.

Michael Holland led all scorers with 22 points and added a game-high 13 rebounds while also handing out five assists, coming away with two steals, and blocking two shots in his final game for the 'Roos. Tristan Dick added 16 points, four rebounds, and two blocked shots and Jason Jones just missed out on a double-double with 10 points and nine boards in the loss.

Austin College found themselves trailing 26-15 with just over seven minutes remaining in the half, but a strong run to close out the opening 20 minutes pulled the 'Roos to within five points at halftime, going into the locker room down 33-28. That momentum carried over into the second half, as the 'Roos used a 9-1 run to take a 37-34 lead over the Tigers. Trinity grabbed a 40-39 lead with 15:14 left and would not reliquish it the rest of the way, however, with the 'Roos never getting closer than 62-59 in the closing minutes of the game. That's when Trinity used a 10-0 run to make it 72-59 with two minutes left to seal the game.

Holland made 9-of-19 shots from the field, while Dick was 6-of-13 and Jones was 4-of-6. Jaylyn Cleamons chipped in nine points for Austin College, as the 'Roos struggled to get going from outside the arc, hitting 4-of-14 shots, and struggled at the free throw line with a 12-of-22 mark. Trinity, meanwhile, hit 22-of-29 shots from the stripe. Tanner Brown led Trinity with 18 points off the bench.
