TLU Tops Austin College Men's Hoops

SEGUIN, Texas - The Austin College men's basketball team fell in a big hole early and was unable to recover, dropping an 81-55 contest at Texas Lutheran in the team's final regular season game of the year. The 'Roos are 4-5 and will be the No. 5-seed in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament.

Texas Lutheran sprinted out to a 29-10 lead for the second straight game, but unlike in Friday's comeback win the 'Roos were unable to chip away at the margin as they went into halftime down 34-21. The Bulldogs used an early run in the second half to push the margin over 20 points, eventually pushing the lead to 71-41 with 6:25 left to play. Texas Lutheran knocked down 10-of-20 threes, compared to 1-of-10 shooting for the 'Roos, and also outscored Austin College 23-to-12 from the free throw line. Austin College struggled to knock down their shots at the stripe as a team, making just 12-of-25 foul shots. The Bulldogs also dominated on the glass, owning a 43-to-29 advantage.

Michael Holland was the lone Austin College player to reach double figures, scoring 15 points and adding six steals. Joshua Joe scored nine points coming off the bench, and Tristan Dick chipped in eight points for the 'Roos. Austin College will head to Georgetown next weekend when they take on Southwestern in the opening round of the SCAC Tournament at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
