Schreiner Tops Austin College Men

KERRVILLE, Texas - Devin Roland poured in a career-high 29 points but the 'Roos weren't quite able to keep pace with Schreiner, falling 66-56 to the Mountaineers on Saturday night. The 'Roos are now 7-14 overall and 3-9 in SCAC play.

Roland got out to a hot start, scoring 17 points in the first 12 minutes to help Austin College take an early lead. With 11:38 left before halftime, the 'Roos led 19-9 but an 11-0 run for Schreiner put the Mountaineers ahead 20-19. Austin College went back on top 23-20 before Schreiner had another big run, this time wit 10 unanswered points to make it 30-23, and the Mountaineers would head into halftime leading 33-30.

Austin College squared things up at 40-40 just under five minutes into the second half, but an 8-0 run for Schreiner put the Mountaineers ahead for good. Austin College was able to pull to within two points at 58-56 on a basket by Kam Hogan with just under three minutes to play, but those would be the last points of the game for the 'Roos.

Roland made 11-of-14 shots, including all four of his three point attempts, and also grabbed 10 rebounds. Michael Holland was the only other 'Roo to reach double figures, scoring 10 points and adding six boards and four assists. Matthew Rindahl paced Schreiner with 22 points and 12 boards, and the Mountaineers knocked down nine threes in the game while Austin College was 5-of-19 from deep.

Austin College returns home next weekend, hosting Johnson & Wales and Colorado College on Friday and Saturday.
