'Roo Men's Hoops Falls to Trinity

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Austin College men's basketball team held Trinity to 39.7% shooting and out-rebounded the Tigers 48-to-42, but Trinity out-scored the 'Roos 28-to-8 from the free throw line to take an 81-71 win. Austin College falls to 7-13 overall and 3-8 in SCAC play.

Michael Holland scored 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds and Kam Hogan added 13 points, six boards, and four assists but the 'Roos made just 5-of-28 three pointers in the loss. Trinity led by double-digits at 28-18 with seven and a half minutes left before the break, and the margin grew to 11 at 35-24 four minutes later, and to 12 points at 37-25 with two minutes on the clock. The 'Roos would close the half with a 6-0 run to cut it to a 37-31 game after the first.

The 'Roos continued their run into the second half, cutting the deficit to 37-35, and after Trinity started to pull away again, the 'Roos used another surge to get the margin down to 53-51 with 8:28 left. The Tigers started to put the 'Roos away down the stretch, however, and a three pointer with 2:16 left pushed it to a 71-61 game. Derek Lockman knocked down a triple with just over a minute left to make it 74-68 but that's as close as Austin College would get the rest of the way.

Holland hit 9-of-16 shots and added four assists and two steals, and Devin Roland added 10 points. Justice Mercadel scored nine points and added 10 rebounds, three assists, and two steals, and Luke Brumbaugh grabbed nine boards and swatted three shots. Trinity's Jordan Lippman led the Tigers with 17 points.
