Men's Hoops Falls to UT-Dallas

RICHARDSON, Texas - The Austin College men's basketball team kept things tight through the first half but the University of Texas-Dallas pulled away after the break, handing the 'Roos an 82-58 loss on Friday afternoon. The 'Roos are now 5-6 overall on the year.

Devin Roland led the 'Roos with 10 points and Michael Holland added nine points and eight boards, but Austin College shot just 35.6% from the field and were out-rebounded 46-32 by the Comets in the game. After a solid offensive showing in the first half that saw the 'Roos trailing just 33-28, Austin College connected only only 10-of-34 field goal attempts in the second half while UTD shot 48.6% from the field and 40% from long distance to pull away.

Blake Mattich came off the bench for a career-best nine points, hitting 3-of-5 three point attempts, and Kam Hogan chipped in eight points, four rebounds, and two assists in the loss. JP Feider had six points and seven boards, while both Roland and Holland dished out three assists to lead the 'Roos. 

Austin College held a 28-27 lead with under three minutes to play in the first half, but the Comets would close on a 6-0 run to take a five-point lead into the break. The run continued into the second half as UTD scored nine straight to open things up, making it a 42-28 game with 16 minutes remaining. The 'Roos would be unable to get the margin back down to single-digits the rest of the way.

The 'Roos are off until January 4, when they head to Denver to take on Johnson & Wales University.
