'Roos Edge Hendrix Behind 27 from Hogan

CONWAY, Ark. - Kam Hogan poured in a career-best 27 points and Austin College got a late basket from Devin Roland to top Hendrix 70-69 on Sunday in the SCAC/SAA Challenge. The 'Roos are now 2-2 overall on the year.

The 'Roos shot 56.9% from the field as a team in the game, while also connecting on 7-of-15 three pointers. Hendrix shot just 40.3% overall but kept things close thanks to 15 offensive rebounds, leading to 11 more attempts than Austin College in the game. Hogan got off to a fast start for Austin College, knocking down each of his first three triples and finishing the game connecting on 11-of-19 shots overall and 5-of-9 from long distance.

Four Austin College players finished in double-digits in the scoring column, with Justice Mercadel chipping in 13 while Michael Holland and Roland each added 12. It was Roland's final basket that gave the 'Roos the victory, scoring with just 35 seconds remaining to make it a 70-69 game. A turnover by Hendrix gave the ball back to Austin College, and the 'Roos would hang on for the win.

Mercadel hit 6-of-8 from the field and added five rebounds and two steals, and Holland grabbed a team-best six rebounds while adding three blocked shots. Roland was 6-of-9 from the field to go along with four rebounds and a pair of steals.

Austin College heads back on the road on Tuesday when they travel to Longview to take on LeTourneau at 7:00 p.m.
