Men's Hoops Falls at Rhodes

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Austin College men's basketball team struggled to get things going offensively, shooting just 15% from three and 33.8% from the field in a 97-60 loss at Rhodes College on Sunday afternoon. The 'Roos are now 1-1 overall on the year.

The 'Roos managed to knock down just 3-of-20 three point attempts and also hit only 13-of-23 free throws as the team was unable to get things going on the offensive end, while Rhodes hit 10 three pointers and shot 88.5% from the free throw line. After going back and forth for the first five minutes of the game, the Lynx began to pull away with a 13-2 run that made it 22-9 midway through the half.

The lead grew to 45-29 at the break, and after a Devin Roland jumper with 14:12 left cut it to 59-41, the 'Roos would be unable to get the margin back under 20 the rest of the way. Roland and Michael Holland each scored 11 to pace the 'Roos, with Holland adding eight rebounds and four steals while Roland grabbed six rebounds. Kam Hogan scored nine points and added four rebounds and two assists, and Justice Mercadel chipped in eight points, two steals, and two blocked shots.

Preston Giroux scored 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting for Rhodes to lead all scorers, and the Lynx out-rebounded Austin College 50-40 in the game.

The 'Roos head to Conway, Arkansas to compete in the SCAC/SAA Challenge next weekend, taking on Millsaps on Saturday and Hendrix on Sunday.
