Mercadel, Holland Named All-SCAC

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Austin College men's basketball players Justice Mercadel and Michael Holland were each selected as All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference performers for the 2017-18 season, the league office announced on Saturday night at the SCAC Tournament hosted by Colorado College.

Mercadel, a freshman guard from Little Elm, was a 3rd Team All-SCAC selection after leading Austin College and finishing seventh in the SCAC with an average of 16.6 points-per-game. He also shot 48.2% from the field and led the SCAC with 2.5 steals-per-game. Mercadel was also seventh in the conference with 1.1 blocks-per-game, and 10th with 2.9 assists-per-game, and was selected as the conference Player of the Week once during the season. 

Holland, a freshman forward from Waxahachie, was an honorable mention All-SCAC pick after finishing third in the conference with 8.8 rebounds-per-game, while adding 13.0 points-per-game. That scoring average was good for third on the team and 16th in the SCAC. Holland also finished ninth in the SCAC with a 50.4% field goal percentage, sixth in blocked shots with 1.1 per-game, and eighth in steals with 1.4 per-game. 

Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Association.
