Hot-Shooting Pirates Top 'Roo Men

GEORGETOWN, Texas - Southwestern shot 60% from the field and 50% from three-point range and the Austin College men's basketball team was unable to keep the pace, falling 109-76 on Friday evening. The 'Roos fall to 4-19 overall and 2-10 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play with the loss.

Kam Hogan led four players in double digits for Austin College with 19 points, adding four steals and three assists in the loss. Austin Wells added 14 points, hitting 6-of-13 shots, and Justice Mercadel scored 12 on 5-of-9 shooting. Kameron Hill hit 3-of-4 from long range on his way to 11 points to round out the team's top scorers. 

Austin College shot just 42.9% from the field and was out-rebounded 42-25 by the Pirates, who got 26 points and eight boards from Brandon Alexander. Luke Hicks buried 6-of-6 three pointers to add 23 points, and Ryan Wheeler had 18 points, six rebounds, and five assists for Southwestern as the Pirates grabbed the lead three minutes in and never looked back. Southwestern also held a 48-to-28 advantage in points in the paint.

Austin College will try to bounce back on Saturday night when they take on Texas Lutheran in Seguin.
