'Roo Men Drop Road Game at Colorado College

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Austin College men's basketball team got a career-best 23 points from Kam Hogan but it wasn't quite enough as the 'Roos were edged 87-82 at Colorado College on Friday night. The 'Roos are now 2-13 overall and 0-4 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

Austin College got out to a hot start, jumping out to an 11-0 lead over the Tigers after threes from Josh Quinn and Kameron Hill. Colorado College would battle back to take its first lead of the game at 22-20 on a three by Eric Jonas, but Quinn would hit another triple to give the 'Roos a 27-26 edge with 7:16 left in the opening half. Colorado College regained a slight lead at 30-27 before Michael Holland squared things again, but the Tigers would surge ahead to a 39-32 lead with 54 seconds left in the half.

However, Austin College got two free throws from Justice Mercadel and Quinn drilled another triple, while Hogan beat the buzzer with a lay-in to cut it to a 41-39 margin at the break.

The two teams traded baskets for the first five minutes of the second half, with Colorado College grabbing a 52-47 lead on a three from Eric Houska. The Tigers gained momentum over the next few minutes, pushing their lead to double digits at 65-54 with 8:36 left in the game. Austin College started to chip away at the margin and a three from Hogan cut it to a 72-67 game with 5:11 left, and Holland's three pointer made it 78-75 with just over a minute remaining. However, that's as close as things would get, as the Tigers knocked down free throws in the closing minute to seal the game.

Hogan hit 9-of-15 shots to score his career-high, and Quinn knocked down 5-of-11 threes on his way to 15 points. Holland finished with 14 points, six rebounds, five assists, and four steals. Austin College knocked down 12-of-29 threes as a team.

Houska led the Tigers with 23 points and eight assists, and CooXooEii Black scored 15 points and grabbed 19 rebounds as Colorado College dominated the glass, out-rebounding Austin College 47-22 in the game.
