'Roo Men Fall Short Against Covenant

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Austin College men's basketball team fell 100-85 to Covenant College on Monday afternoon on the campus of Rhodes College, as the Scots used 55.1% shooting to drop the 'Roos to 2-8 on the year.

Justice Mercadel scored 23 points to pace Austin College and added six rebounds, three assists, and three blocked shots as five different 'Roos reached double figures in the scoring column. However, Covenant utilized 42.1% shooting from beyond the arc and out-rebounded Austin College 42-30 to hand the 'Roos the loss. Covenant got out to a 51-39 halftime lead, and despite Austin College scoring 46 second half points the 'Roos were unable to make up any ground.

Austin Wells and Kam Hogan each scored 13 points, with Hogan adding a career-best seven steals and Wells knocking down 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. Josh Quinn added 10 points and six boards, and Josh Hardwick came off the bench to score 10 points on 3-of-7 shooting from beyond the arc. 

Austin College will be looking to bounce back on Tuesday as they take on Piedmont College at 1:00 p.m. in another game played at Rhodes.
