'Roos Use Hot Shooting to Cruise Past Carroll

SHERMAN, Texas – The Austin College men's basketball team shot 56% from the field and 50% from beyond the three point arc en route to a 75-60 victory over Carroll University on Saturday afternoon. The 'Roos are now 5-6 overall as they head into 2017.

Austin College jumped out to an early 11-6 lead after a pair of buckets by JP Feider and a three from Josh Dickerman, and a triple from Josh Quinn pushed the margin to 16-8 with 11:57 on the clock. The lead grew to double digits at 20-8 on a bucket by Austin Wells, and six straight points from Jeremy Swisher gave the 'Roos a 32-19 lead with 3:55 left before halftime.

Austin College pushed the advantage to as much as 14 in the opening half on another trey from Quinn, making it 37-23, and would head into the locker room holding a 39-27 edge over Carroll.

Carroll pulled to within seven at 41-34 early in the second half, but consecutive threes from Quinn pushed the Austin College lead to 47-36 with 15:29 left in the game. The Pioneers fought back and got the game into single digits again, pulling to within four at 48-44 just two minutes later but seven unanswered gave the 'Roos a 55-44 edge midway through the half.

Austin College maintained its cushion for the next five minutes, taking a 64-55 lead on a free throw by Swisher. Carroll would briefly get the margin down to six points but a triple from Swisher made it 69-59 with 2:44 left to ice the game.

Swisher hit 6-of-13 shots to lead Austin College with 16 points, adding four assists in the victory. Quinn hit 4-of-4 from long range to finish with 14. Brian Baehl chipped in eight points, as all 11 Austin College players who saw action found their way into the scoring column.

Tanner Zaeske led Carroll with 14 points and eight reounds, and Tyler Ingebrigsten added 13 points and six boards.
