Shooting Woes Doom 'Roo Hoops in SCAC Tournament

The Austin College men's basketball team struggled from the field and Schreiner grabbed 19 more rebounds to hand the 'Roos a 67-47 loss on Friday night in the SCAC Quarterfinals. The 'Roos finish the season with a record of 9-16 with the loss.

Austin College jumped out to an early 14-8 lead after seven early points from Alan Sullivan, but a 12-2 run by the Mountaineers put Schreiner on top 20-16 with 7:30 left before the break. A three by Jordan Hancock pulled the 'Roos to within two at 23-21, but Schreiner would score the last eight of the half to head into the break leading 31-21.

The Mountaineer run would extend into the second half, as Schreiner scored the first seven to open the second frame and make it 38-21, and the 'Roos were never able to get the margin under 11 the rest of the way. A three by Sullivan made it 45-34 with 11:03 left but an 11-0 run by Schreiner put the game away for good.

Austin College shot just 28.8% from the field and hit just 6-of-24 threes and only 11-of-22 free throws, and were out-rebounded 51-32 in the game. Sullivan finished with 12 points to lead the 'Roos and Hancock added 10. Austin Freet chipped in nine points and six boards.
