Men's Hoops Edged by Southwestern 60-58

The Austin College men's basketball team battled back to tie Southwestern with 24 seconds left, but the Pirates scored with 14 seconds remaining to hand the 'Roos a 60-58 loss on Friday. The 'Roos are now 4-8 overall and 0-3 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

The 'Roos trailed by seven with 6:30 left in the game before fighting back to square things at 58 apiece on a pair of Ransom Okpala free throws, but Southwestern's Michael Cantu scored 10 seconds later and Okpala's last second three point attempt missed.

The 'Roos held a 30-24 halftime advantage before a 9-0 run by the Pirates to start the second halfl put Southwestern up 33-30, and the 'Roos would only lead one more time at 52-51 on a pair of Austin Brewster free throws with just over four minutes left to play. Okpala scored 14 points and had six rebounds, and Austin Freet came off the bench to score 14 points on 4-of-5 shooting. 

Brian Baehl scored 13 and added three steals for the 'Roos, who were out-rebounded 35-26 and hounded into 16 turnovers.

Austin College will try to bounce back tomorrow when they take on Trinity in San Antonio at 4:00 p.m.
