Austin College is now 1-5 overall and 1-3 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.
Hudson scored on three touchdown runs of over 70 yards, finding paydirt once from 75 yards and twice from 71, to help the 'Roos to the conference victory over the Scots. Colton Gerken and Brady Dygert came up huge on defense, as well, with Gerken making a career-best 22 tackles while Dygert also had a career day with 17 stops. Jaylon Talton had a solid game at quarterback, completing 11-of-16 passes for 179 yards with a touchdown, as Austin College had the ball for only a third of the game but used its explosive playmaking to out-gain Lyon 496-to-357.
The 'Roos got on the board quickly in the first after forcing a three-and-out from the Scots, as Talton found Jacob Brewer from 27 yards out for Brewer's SCAC-leading sixth touchdown catch of the season with 10:43 left in the opening quarter. Lyon got on the scoreboard with a second quarter field goal to make it 7-3, but Hudson raced 75 yards for his first score on the next 'Roo possession to make it 14-3 with 9:31 left before halftime. The Scots would get those seven points back, however, as Jaylin Babers plunged in from a yard out with under a minute left on the clock to make it 14-10 at the break.
Hudson opened the scoring in the second half with a 71 yard touchdown run to make it 21-10, but the Scots pulled to within four points at 21-17 on an 11-yard touchdown connection from Grayson Johnson to Reginald Brown with 4:33 left in the third. Austin College answered back on their next drive, though, marching 62 yards on six plays with Zyan Stewart finding the endzone from six yards out to make it 28-17 heading into the fourth quarter. Hudson put the game away with 1:48 left to play, once again breaking away for a 71-yard jaunt to make it a 35-17 final.
