'Roos Earn Road Win at Millsaps

JACKSON, Miss. - Austin College jumped out to a 20-3 halftime lead and never looked back, earning a 34-23 road victory at Millsaps on Saturday afternoon. The 'Roos are now 2-5 overall and 2-3 in Southern Athletic Association play.

Colt Collins hooked up with Trey Carr for the first of two touchdown connections between the pair, giving Austin College a 7-0 lead a little over halfway through the opening quarter. The 17-yard pass capped off an 11 play, 65 yard scoring drive. The Majors countered with a field goal, but early in the second quarter Collins took off for a 35-yard touchdown run to make it 13-3 after the PAT failed. The 'Roos scored once more before the break, as Collins found Aaron Rideaux from 24 yards out to make it 20-3.

Millsaps put together a 14 play, 92 yard scoring drive to open the second half and cut it to a 20-10 game but Austin College answered, as Collins once again found Carr, this time from nine yards away to make it a 27-10 game. The Majors scored again to cut it back to a 10-point deficit, but Evan Powell's 1-yard touchdown plunge with 2:31 left in the game sealed the victory for the 'Roos. The Majors would get one more touchdown but fail on the conversion with under a minute left to make it a 34-23 final.

Collins completed 20-of-40 passes for 268 yards and three touchdowns and added another 65 yards on the ground. Powell rushed five times for 35 yards and a score, and Rideaux ended up catching three passes for 78 yards. Morris Shell paced the defense with 10 tackles and also recovered a fumble and picked off a pass.
